Former Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall announced his retirement from professional soccer today in a press release from D.C. United.
Hall, 31, didn't specify his plans for retirement, but The Washington Post reports that he intends to pursue a career in law enforcement. Hall's father served as a firefighter in their home state of Washington, and the Gig Harbor native was always at the forefront of club initiatives helping police, firefighters, and military members. He serves on the board of the nonprofit organization Banded Brigade Outdoors alongside former Dynamo teammate Brad Davis, organizing morale-boosting outdoor activities for American military members, injured veterans, and their families.
"I'd like to congratulate Tally Hall on a great career and thank him for his contributions to the Dynamo during his time here," team president Chris Canetti said. "He played a big role in our success and will go down as an important player in our club's history. I'd like to wish him and his family well in the next chapter in their life."
Hall joined the Dynamo in 2009 after two years playing in Denmark. He began as a backup to Pat Onstad, and scored the only goal by a Dynamo goalkeeper in the 2009 CONCACAF Champions League with a long-range goal against Isidro Metapán. He claimed the starting job in 2011 and earned two MLS All-Star nods as well as leading the Dynamo to two MLS Cup Finals.
He was traded to Orlando City SC at the end of 2014, then joined D.C. United at the start of 2016. Hall ended his Dynamo career second all-time in wins (65) and shutouts (46) in all competitions, and set the single-season shutout record in 2012 with 12 clean sheets.
