Houston Dynamo captain Giles Barnes was named to Jamaica's final 23-player roster for the Copa América Centenario by Jamaica head coach Winfried Schaefer. Barnes will join Jamaica on Tuesday ahead of a pre-tournament friendly versus Chile on Friday.
Barnes has 14 caps and three goals for the Reggae Boyz. Born in London, England, but of Jamaican descent, the 27-year-old made his senior international debut in May 2015, scoring against Venezuela. The midfielder/forward appeared in three games for Jamaica at the 2015 Copa América in Chile and then scored two goals in Jamaica's run to the 2015 Gold Cup final.
Jamaica is in Group C and will open the Copa América on June 5 versus Venezuela at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Reggae Boyz then meet Mexico on June 9 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and close the group stage against Uruguay on June 13 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The Copa América features four groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The final is set for June 26 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Houston’s NRG Stadium will host three matches: Costa Rica vs. Colombia (June 11), Venezuela vs. Mexico (June 13) and a semifinal on June 21.
