Houston closes Challenge Cup with primetime match against Charleston

The Dynamo will play their final preseason match when they take on the Charleston Battery in the final match of the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup. Kickoff is set for 5:45 pm CT at Blackbaud Stadium. The Dynamo are 2-2-1 all-time against Charleston.

Dynamo at Carolina Challenge Cup

Following Wednesday's win over the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Dynamo are now 5-1-2 all-time in Challenge Cup history. The Dynamo went unbeaten in their first six matches at the Challenge Cup, having won the 2006 and 2007 editions of the tournament.


Tournament Update

The winner of the Challenge Cup is the team with the most points after each team has played their three matches. The Dynamo currently sit tied for second place. Chicago is alone in first place with a 2-0-0 record. If Chicago defeats or ties Vancouver in their final match on Saturday, the Fire will win the tournament. If Vancouver wins, the Dynamo will have the opportunity to win the tournament if their final goal differential is stronger than both Chicago's and Vancouver's. Stay tuned for more information.

Dynamo in 2013 preseason

The Dynamo enter Saturday's match with a 6-3-1 preseason record. Houston is 2-0-3 against MLS competition, with wins coming against Vancouver on Wednesday and the Colorado Rapids in the Desert Friendlies in Tucson.


Roster Update

The Dynamo announced a few player moves this week as they move closer to finalizing their roster for the 2013 season opener. Je-Vaughn Watson, a Jamaican midfielder who made more than 40 appearances for the Dynamo over the past two seasons, was traded to FC Dallas for a 2015 second round draft pick. The Dynamo also completed a rumored move for Andrew Driver, a versatile midfielder who brings more than 150 Scottish Premier League appearances to Houston. It was also announced on Monday that Franck Songo'o, a trialist whose rights are owned by the Portland Timbers, was let go from camp. The Dynamo have three remaining trialists in camp: defenders Mike Chabala, Jimmy Nealis and Anthony Arena.
