The Houston Dash signed six players prior to the beginning of the 2019 NWSL regular season, the club announced today.
Houston signed four of their 2019 NWSL College Draft picks, adding forwards CeCe Kizer and Kayla McCoy to the senior roster and defenders Jazmin Jackmon and Ally Prisock as supplemental players. In addition to Prisock, the club signed forward Jamia Fields and goalkeeper Devon Kerr as supplemental players. Fields will be eligible for selection pending the receipt of her ITC.
The NWSL announced on Jan. 10 that senior rosters will expand to a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 22 players. In addition, the NWSL created four new supplemental roster spots that will allow teams to sign up to four additional players at the league minimum who will not count against the Salary Cap. Supplemental players are eligible to train with the team on a full-time basis.
The Dash chose Kizer out of the University of Mississippi with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. Since then, the forward has scored three goals with the Dash during preseason. The two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American (2017, 2018) scored 48 goals and tallied 23 assists in 83 appearances for the Rebels during her collegiate career. She finished as the SEC regular-season leader in goals (13), assists (8) and points (34) in her senior season, earning first-team All-SEC honors.
McCoy was Houston’s final pick in the second round, with the Duke University product coming off the board at No. 18 overall. The forward scored 38 goals and had 17 assists in four seasons for the Blue Devils, including double-digit goal totals as a junior and senior. McCoy was a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy as a senior when she scored 12 goals and added eight assists in 22 games.
Jackmon was selected with the No. 21 overall pick and saw action in all 38 games over two seasons with the University of Oregon. The 5’10” defender was the first University of Oregon player drafted into the NWSL and earned Honorable Mention Academic All-Pac 12 honors as a senior. The Pasadena, Calif. native began her collegiate career at Santa Clara and helped the Broncos advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore.
Prisock was selected with the 12th overall pick from the University of South California in January. The defender led the Trojans to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and, like McCoy, was a Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2018.
Fields returns to the NWSL after she spent 2018 in Europe with Arna-Bjørnar and Avaldsnes IL in Norway. The forward spent two seasons with the Orlando Pride from 2016-2018 and appeared in 28 matches tallying two assists in 1,223 minutes. The Florida State product joined the Pride after she was selected by Orlando with the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NWSL Expansion Draft from the Western New York Flash. The forward scored a goal in 10 appearances for the Flash during the 2015 NWSL season.
Kerr finished her collegiate career at Ohio State University as the 2018 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. The Barrie, Ontario native was named to the All-Big Ten first team and TopDrawerSoccer.com All-American third team. The goalkeeper finished with 19 shutouts in 63 matches for the Buckeyes prior to joining the Dash as a non-roster invitee. Kerr also brings youth international experience to Houston after representing Canada at the Under-17 level and the U.S. Women’s National Team with the Under-19 and Under-20 teams.
