Last Sunday, the Dynamo tied the Colorado Rapids 1-1 to extend their home unbeaten streak to 36 consecutive games in all competitions. Despite the result, MLSsoccer.com voters dropped the Dynamo to No 7 in this week’s power rankings.
The Dynamo struggled out of the gate and took a 1-0 deficit into halftime following a goal by Drew Moor in first half stoppage time.
“We just need to be a little sharper, a little bit better, a little more turning it on right at the beginning of the game,” defender Eric Brunner told reporters after the game on Sunday.
The Dynamo came out fighting in the second half, though, and equalized the match in the 66th minute when Giles Barnes drove past a Rapids defender and fired a shot into the corner of the net.
MLSsoccercom’s Matt Doyle shared his thought on the state of the Dynamo:
“Can't buy a win on the road, and looked something less than remarkable at home. Yeah, Clint Irwin had another big game, and that hurt Houston, but we just don't trust a team that is struggling to defend set pieces. It's been an issue since MLS Cup.”
Over at ESPN.com, soccer writer Jeff Carlisle ranked the Dynamo No. 7 in his poll and looked at the both the good and the bad from Sunday’s draw:
“The Dynamo has an MLS record all to itself after extending its regular-season home unbeaten streak to 30 in a 1-1 tie with Colorado. There was little else to be satisfied about.”
With a chance to claim a win and move up on the power rankings, the Dynamo play their next match on Sunday, May 5th against two-time reigning MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center. The match kicks off at 10 p.m. CT and can be seen nationally on ESPN2.
