US Soccer announced today the potential matchups for the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Houston Dynamo will face the winner of the second round match between the San Antonio Scorpions (NASL) and FC Tucson. Those two teams will square off on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field in San Antonio.
If the Scorpions win, they will host the Dynamo the following week at Toyota Field. If FC Tucson wins, they will travel to Houston to take on the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. Regardless of the opponent, the match will be played on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The 2013 U.S. Open Cup marks the 100th edition of the tournament as U.S. Soccer is in the midst of its Centennial celebration. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer.
The Dynamo lost to San Antonio 1-0 in the third round of last year's tournament. Houston's best finishes came in 2006 and 2009 when they advanced to the semifinals fo the tournament.
