Houston Dynamo FC acquired midfielder Artur from the Columbus Crew in exchange for $300,000 in General Allocation Money, both teams announced today. Houston will send the Crew $200,000 in 2023 GAM, $100,000 in 2024 GAM and Columbus could receive an additional $50,000 in GAM if certain performance metrics are met
“Artur is a proven winner in our league, a true competitor and a leader in the locker room,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said. “We talked about bringing in winners this offseason and Artur embodies this mentality. He will be a unifying presence in the locker room and will add a more physical element to our central midfield next season. I am excited to work with Artur again and welcome him and his family to the city of Houston.”
The 26-year-old Brazilian made 24 appearances for the Crew in 2022 with 20 starts in league play. The defensive-minded midfielder made 13 clearances, 20 interceptions and helped the Crew tally five clean sheets during the 2022 campaign. As a mainstay in the midfield in Columbus, Artur finished with 11 key passes and his passing success rate was among the highest on the team at nearly 87 percent.
Artur has earned 124 starts in 138 league appearances since 2017. The Brumado, Brazil native won the 2020 MLS Cup with the Crew, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals against the New England Revolution. The midfielder has led the Crew to three postseason appearances and the team also claimed the 2021 Campeones Cup with a 2-0 victory over CD Cruz Azul
Artur is set to begin his seventh season in MLS after the midfielder first joined the Crew on loan from São Paulo, in the Brazilian First Division, before the 2017 MLS regular season. He has remained with the Crew following a permanent transfer in December 2017. He made his professional debut as a 20-year-old for São Paulo in a 2-2 draw with Flamengo and would go on to earn key minutes against Santos FC and América Futebol Clube prior to his transfer to Columbus.
