Houston Dynamo FC earned their second clean sheet of the season this evening with a 0-0 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Houston’s best opportunity in the first half came after forward Maxi Urruti won a foul outside the box in the 25th minute. Urruti’s free kick curled the ball around the Whitecaps’ wall and hit the crossbar.
Houston’s high press forced two corners in the first ten minutes. Vancouver responded in the 15th minute after Vancouver forward Cristian was left unmarked for a one-touch finish that went over the crossbar.
In the 42nd minute, Dynamo defender Teenage Hadebe conceded a foul and earned his first MLS caution. This was Hadebe’s first start for the Dynamo debut, and he logged 90 minutes. The defender finished with two shots, the last coming in the 82nd minute off a corner kick, sending the ball just inches from Vancouver’s goal.
In the 81st minute, Vancouver defender Cristián Gutiérrez took a freekick that went over the Dynamo defense, but the ball was eventually cleared by Houston.
The Dynamo will remain on the road this week and travel to PayPal Park on Saturday to face the San Jose Earthquakes. The Dynamo return to BBVA Stadium on July 31 to host Real Salt Lake.
