Houston Dynamo FC dropped their first game since May 29 after falling 2-0 to Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field this evening.
Seattle took the lead in the 63rd minute off a cross Alex Roldan that found Kelyn Rowe at the near post for a one-touch finish. The Sounders doubled their lead after Raul Ruidiaz found the back of the net in the final minutes of the second half.
The Sounders logged the first scoring opportunity of the game from the left boot of Ruidiaz in the seventh minute. The Peruvian international got behind the Dynamo backline, but his effort from inside the box hit the bottom corner of the far post.
Dynamo midfielder Memo Rodriguez forced a save in the 17th minute off a one-two pass with forward Maxi Urruti. Rodriguez dribbled at the top of the box and his shot from outside the box was handled by Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland.
The Dynamo caught Cleveland off his line in the 19th minute, but Dynamo forward Fafa Picault’s effort was blocked and cleared by defender Abdoulaye Cissoko.
Seattle forward Fredy Montero forced a save in the 21st minute with a header just outside the six-yard box. Dynamo goalkeeper Marko Maric was well positioned to handle his effort at the near post. Maric finished with four saves against the Sounders.
Picault forced a clearance in the 38th minute when his cross skipped across the face of goal skipping past two Sounders defenders. Houston’s final opportunity of the game came in the 89th minute with a long-range effort from Urruti that was saved by Cleveland.
The Dynamo return from the international break on July 20 against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Dynamo return to BBVA Stadium on July 31 to host Real Salt Lake.
