The Houston Dynamo Football Club announced the schedule of theme nights and thematic weekends for Houston Dynamo FC and the Houston Dash today.
The Club will once again create a number of thematic weekends and months during the season that include both Dynamo and Dash matches to highlight initiatives that are central to the organization’s identity. This is an initiative that the Club began last season following the November 2020 rebrand to create more of an emphasis on creating more Club-wide promotions.
City of Soccer Weekend returns for its second year the weekend of April 30 and May 1 when the Dynamo host Austin FC and the Dash welcome NWSL expansion side San Diego Wave FC, respectively. July will bring Americana Weekend, which features the Dash vs. the Kansas City Current on July 1 and the Dynamo against MLS newcomers Charlotte FC on July 3. Dynamo Charities Weekend returns for the weekend of August 12-13 when the Dash host Racing Louisville FC and the Dynamo host CF Montréal. Soccer Kicks Cancer Weekend will take place the weekend of Sept. 10-11 when the Dynamo host Sporting Kansas City and the Dash host Angel City FC.
Tickets to all Houston Dynamo FC home matches are on sale now, and Houston Dash regular season tickets will go on sale Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. For ticket information, visit HoustonDynamoFC.com/Tickets.
During City of Soccer Weekend, the Dynamo host in-state rivals Austin FC on Saturday, April 30 and the Dash kick off their regular-season schedule on Sunday, May 1 against NWSL newcomers San Diego Wave FC. The weekend will be a celebration of the Houston soccer community at every level, from the grassroots to the pros, and Houston soccer past and present.
The Club will induct a new class into the Orange Blazer Club, a tradition started by former Dynamo president Oliver Luck to honor influential contributors to the sport in our city. This year’s class will be announced soon. The weekend will culminate with a brilliant fireworks show above PNC Stadium courtesy of PNC Bank following the Dash match on Sunday evening.
June features two Dash matches and one Dynamo match, and the Club will celebrate Soccer For All Month across all three matches. The month-long celebration will showcase the Club’s commitment to inclusivity in all its forms. The Dash home contest on June 12 against Portland will be the team’s annual Pride Night, during which the Dash will celebrate Houston’s vibrant LGBTQIA+ community. Additional Soccer For All Month recognitions include honoring the Dynamo Unified Special Olympics Team, the Team Texas Amputee Soccer Team and the celebration of Juneteenth.
Americana Weekend spans July 1-3 as the Dash host Kansas City on Friday, July 1 and the Dynamo host Charlotte FC on Sunday, July 3. The Club will celebrate all things Red, White and Blue, albeit with a distinctively orange tint as we collectively celebrate America’s independence.
Dynamo Charities Weekend returns for its second year as the Club puts the spotlight on the philanthropic efforts undertaken by its 501(c)(3) non-profit arm. Dynamo Charities supports causes related to its four primary pillars – food insecurity, cancer support and awareness, veteran support and youth and community development through soccer. Fans will have opportunities to contribute to Dynamo Charities through a variety of fundraising initiatives throughout the weekend.
Saturday, August 27 will be the Dash’s annual Inspiring Women Night, a celebration of many of the women who are driving Houston’s economic engine through their work at the city’s leading organizations. The highlight of Inspiring Women Night is the pregame recognition of a new class of Inspiring Women. Past honorees have included Harris County – Houston Sports Authority CEO Janis Burke, sportswriter Jenny Creech, President of Business Operations - Houston Rockets & Toyota Center Gretchen Shierr and more.
September brings the annual Soccer Kicks Cancer Weekend on September 10 and 11. Originally launched as a Major League Soccer initiative, Houston Dynamo FC expanded it to include both the Dynamo and the Dash to reflect the Club’s commitment to ending cancer in collaboration with its partners at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Highlights of the weekend include players wearing jerseys or warm-up tops featuring the names of pediatric cancer patients, yellow goal nets and corner flags and a variety of fundraising initiatives.
The conclusion of both the Dynamo and Dash regular seasons coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month, with the Dynamo hosting a pair of matches and the Dash one. Hispanic Heritage Month will extend well beyond match days, but fans at PNC Stadium will notice a number of touches inspired by the cultures of countries throughout Central and South America, particularly those from which Dynamo and Dash players hail.
The Dynamo are 2-1-2 early on in their 2022 campaign while the Dash kick off the 2022 NWSL regular season on Sunday, May 1.
