The Dynamo close a two-game road trip on Saturday when they face FC Dallas in Toyota Stadium. This is the first meeting of the season between both teams and the Dynamo look bounce back after a midweek loss to Minnesota United FC.
Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark finished with four saves against the Loons and kept Houston in the hunt for a split of the points. Clark tallied three saves within minutes of each other at the end of the first half to keep Houston within one goal of earning a draw.
Offensively, Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla generated three chances for the Dynamo in Minnesota. The Panamanian international was denied at the near post in the opening minutes of the game but was at the heart of the Dynamo offense on Wednesday. Nearly half of his passes completed (12) were to one of the five attackers on the field in Minnesota.
Dynamo midfielder Hector Herrera and forward Amine Bassi return to the team after serving a one-game suspension. Both players received a red card in Houston’s 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC on May 13. This will be the first Texas Derby for Bassi, who featured in the preseason friendly against Dallas. Herrera made his Dynamo and MLS debut in the 2-2 draw with FC Dallas on July 9 in Houston.
FC Dallas earned three points on Wednesday after a comeback victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Pedro Vite gave Vancouver the lead in the 23rd minute but Jesus Ferreira tallied a brace to secure the triumph. Ferreira is now tied with Cristian Espinoza (San Jose) and Jordan Morris (Seattle) for the second most goals scored this season with eight.
The Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium on Tuesday, May 23 to host Minnesota in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Houston closes the week when they host Austin FC on Saturday, May 27.
