Houston Dynamo FC announced today the signing of defender Kieran Sargeant to a first team contract as a Homegrown Player through 2025 with club options for 2026 and 2027. Kieran is the 16th Dynamo Academy product to sign as a Homegrown Player with the first team and the fourth signed by general manager, Pat Onstad, since February 2022.
“Kieran was one of the most promising attacking outside backs in college soccer last season, winning a Big East regular season championship and earning Georgetown a number four seed in the NCAA tournament. We look forward to his return to Houston and his continued development from the collegiate to professional ranks this season,” Dynamo General Manager Pat Onstad said. “We want to thank his mother Danielle, his father Glen, and his League City-based youth club Space City for their significant support that allowed Kieran to chase his dream of becoming a professional player for his hometown club.”
The 20-year-old just finished his junior year at Georgetown University, starting all 19 games he appeared in on the backline, as the Hoyas finished the year with a 13-3-3 (WLD) record, a positive 23 goal difference and a run to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
Sargeant was a four-year starter with the Dynamo Academy and was named the Player of the Season for the U17 group in the 2019-20 season. During that season, the defender played a key role in the team winning its super group at the Generation adidas Cup.
Sargeant’s sophomore season saw him named a Third Team All-BIG East honoree after starting all 21 games on a Hoyas backline that forced seven shutouts. The defender tallied a goal against Temple, while recording five assists on the season, good for eighth most in the conference.
The defender’s freshman season saw him appear in 20 games, including seven starts. Sargeant ended the season with two goals and three assists, earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.
