Houston Dynamo FC close a 12-game stretch that began on May 6 when Houston tallied their fifth clean sheet of the season at Shell Energy Stadium against Real Salt Lake. The 12th game is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. CT kickoff at BMO Stadium against LAFC on Wednesday and this is the second time both squads face off in the last four days. The Dynamo defeated LAFC 4-0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday for their sixth victory of the season at home.
The Dynamo have scored 16 goals in their last six games across all competitions. Seven different players scored for the team in that stretch and the team will look to replicate that offensive prowess in one of the most challenging venues in the league on Wednesday. Saturday’s match was the third time the team scored four or more goals this year. The Dynamo offense scored four goals just once in the 2022 campaign.
Captain Héctor Herrera, defender Franco Escobar and assistant coach Brendan Burke were named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of Matchday following their performance on Saturday. Herrera earned his third league honor and Escobar was named to the team for the second time this season. Burke joined the Dynamo earlier this year after serving as the head coach of the Colorado Switchbacks in the USL Championship. He led the team on Saturday following a one-game suspension for head coach Ben Olsen for yellow card accumulation.
Defensively, Micael earned Man of the Match honors following his performance against LAFC. The 22-year-old led the team with three interceptions and finished with three clearances. The backline and goalkeeper Steve Clark earned their sixth clean sheet of the season on Saturday. The team has only conceded two goals at home in eight matches, the lowest mark in team history. This is also the third time in league play that a team conceded two or less goals in the first eight home games of the campaign.
LAFC have now been held scoreless in their last three games across all competitions and they look to bounce back after Wednesday’s loss in Shell Energy Stadium. LAFC enter with a 5-2-4 lead in the all-time series and defeated the Dynamo 3-1 in the last meeting at BMO Stadium on Sept. 18, 2022. Houston earned a point in the previous visit to Southern California, a 1-1 draw on June 19, 2021.
The Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium on June 21 to host the San Jose Earthquakes for 713 Night. Tickets for the match start at $7 and fans can enjoy $3 beers and $1 hot dogs.
