The Houston Dynamo will continue their 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign on Monday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. CDT at BBVA Compass Stadium in a Round of 16 match against Minnesota United FC. The matchup was determined in a random draw conducted by U.S. Soccer Thursday morning.
All Dynamo Season Ticket Members will receive tickets to the match as part of their membership, and General Admission seats are available here starting at $19. The match will be streamed live on HoustonDynamo.com/Live.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament to determine the champion of American soccer. Teams from every level of soccer are included, from local amateur and semi-pro sides up to Major League Soccer. Each MLS club received a bye until the fourth round of the tournament. Founded in 1914, the Open Cup is the oldest national soccer competition in the United States and the second-oldest team championship in American sports. The 2018 tournament is the 105th edition of the competition.
The Dynamo are 13-11-1 all-time in the tournament, with the one draw going to penalty kicks in 2008. Houston’s deepest run in the tournament has been to the Semifinals in 2006 and again in 2009. Last year, the Dynamo were eliminated in the Round of 16 by eventual champion Sporting Kansas City.
This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Dynamo and Minnesota United in the Open Cup. The two clubs have met four times in Major League Soccer regular-season competition, including a 2-1 Minnesota win at TCF Bank Stadium earlier this year on April 28.
