The Houston Dynamo signed midfielder Todd Wharton to a short-term agreement ahead of the club’s BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup match against Monterrey CF at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CDT (TICKETS) and the match will be televised live via Univision Deportes Network.
Wharton joined the Dynamo for both of the team’s previous Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches. The young midfielder was a starter in the 5-0 Fourth Round win against NTX Rayados and dressed in the 1-0 Round of 16 win against Minnesota United FC.
Major League Soccer clubs may sign players from their USL affiliates to short-term agreements of up to four days for the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, Amway Canadian Championship, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and designated exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season for a maximum of 16 days. Clubs are not permitted to call up players from their youth academy or USL players not signed to professional contracts.
Following Friday’s match, the Dynamo will return to league play when they host Los Angeles FC at BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday, July 3. Kickoff for that match is set for 8:00 p.m. CDT.
