The Houston Dynamo Academy returned to action over the weekend as every age group faced Solar Soccer Club on Saturday at Houston Sports Park. The U-17 and U-18 teams had double duty as they closed the weekend with back-to-back victories over Rio Grande Valley FC on Sunday.
“With matches on both Saturday and Sunday, every player in the Academy had the opportunity to play 90-120 minutes in competitive matches,” Dynamo Academy Director Paul Holocher said. “It was good to see our teams face different challenges, formations, and ways of playing and still remain consistent to our game model, our ideas and our way of playing. ”
The U-13 squad earned the first victory of the weekend as Lalo Estrada, Gale Gonzalez and Joshua James led the Dynamo to a 4-2 victory. Houston was down 2-0 early in the first half and responded with four goals, including a brace from James.
The U-14 team got off to an early start with a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Dynamo earned three points with a 3-1 victory on Saturday with goals from Osagie Akhigbe, Jaidyn Contreras and Daniel Menyoli.
Houston suffered their first defeat of the series with the North Texas club at the U-15 level when Solar scored the first goal of the match against the run of play. Houston dominated possession and managed the ball under pressure, but ultimately fell to Solar 2-0.
The Dynamo fell to Solar 4-2 at the U-17 level on Saturday and the U-19 squad closed the series with a narrow 2-1 loss. Both teams bounced back with victories to close the weekend at Houston Sports Park on Sunday.
The U-17 team exploded for five second half goals in a 7-1 victory over RGV and the Dynamo earned a 2-0 victory at the U-19 level to sweep the series.
The Dynamo Academy have a bye week this weekend and return to action on Nov. 14 to host San Antonio Football Club for matches at the U-13 through U-17 age group.
