The Houston Dynamo will take on the Laredo Heat on June 10 in an exhibition match presented by Amigo Energy, it was announced today. The game will be held at Whataburger Field, home of the Corpus Christi Hooks, the night before the 2010 FIFA World Cup begins in South Africa. It will be the Dynamo’s first ever appearance in Corpus Christi.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., and tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, April 6, at 9 a.m. via ryansandersentertainment.com and the Hooks office at (361) 561-HOOK. Proceeds from the match benefit the Coastal Bend Youth Soccer Association. The Dynamo are partnering with Ryan-Sanders Baseball to bring the match to Whataburger Field.

The Laredo Heat are a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League, a league for competitive collegiate and amateur players. The Heat have won three of the last five Mid-South Division titles and took the overall PDL title in 2007, one of three consecutive appearances in the championship game from 2006-08. The Dynamo and Heat met last April in a scrimmage, with the Dynamo taking a 4-0 victory.

“We are pleased and proud to partner with the Dynamo in bringing this historic event to Corpus Christi and South Texas,” Reid Ryan, founder and CEO of Ryan-Sanders Baseball, said. “As the first appearance by an MLS team south of San Antonio, this is a wonderful opportunity for soccer fans in the region and from across the border to see a major league power from the nation’s fourth-largest city.”

The Dynamo already have a presence in South Texas via the Dynamo South Texas Academy, which includes players from McAllen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Edinburg, La Joya, Mission, and other towns throughout the area.

“We’re excited to bring soccer to the city of Corpus Christi,” Dynamo President/General Manager Oliver Luck, said. “As an organization, we always look for opportunities that enable us to grow the sport, and this game against the Laredo Heat is a great avenue by which we can showcase the quality of our team to the fans, not only in this city, but also in the South Texas region. We look forward to an exciting match against a team which in the past has proven to be a good opponent.”

The game will mark the first time Whataburger Field has hosted a soccer match since opening in 2005. Whataburger Field regularly hosts Texas League action and baseball games at the high school and collegiate levels. Ryan-Sanders-Ryan, the entertainment arm of Ryan-Sanders, has also recently brought concerts and boxing matches to the venue.
