International Roundup - September 10

Andre Hainault scored the winner for Canada against Belarus.

Although the U.S. national team fell 2-1 Friday night in their World Cup qualifying match against Jamaica, Houston Dynamo players had a successful weekend with their respective national teams, going 3-0-0.

Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor and midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson started and played 90 minutes in the Reggae Boyz' 2-1 win over the United States. Taylor was strong along the Jamaican backline, helping stifle the U.S. attack after the home side gave up the early goal.

In Havana, Cuba, Boniek Garcia started and played 90 minutes for Honduras as Los Catrachos defeated the home side 3-0.

Andre Hainault and Canada continued their trek for their first World Cup berth since 1986, defeating Panama 1-0 at BMO Field in Toronto. Hainault started and played 90 minutes along the Canadian backline.

Canada and Jamaica each sit atop their respective groups with seven points. Honduras is in third place in Group C with four points, behind Canada and Panama.

All three teams will be in action Tuesday night in the second match of their home-and-home series.
