The unbeaten streak has come to an end.
Houston Dynamo FIFA player Kid M3mito suffered his first loss in eMLS competition Tuesday night with a 4-3 loss to Doolsta of the Philadelphia Union in eMLS League Series One Los Angeles, presented by Playstation. The loss broke a 33-game undefeated run stretching back to last April’s inaugural eMLS Cup.
M3mito began the day in typical steamroller fashion, going undefeated in Western Conference play with a 7-0-2 record. Advancing to the knockout round as the No. 1 seed in the conference, the Houston native defeated GGGodfather of the LA Galaxy by a score of 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
The reigning champion faced a tough test in the semifinals, as he faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Skill Shack. The two played to a scoreless stalemate in regulation, but Kid M3mito opened the scoring in extra time. Skill Shack leveled the match at 1-1 in the second period of extra time, but M3mito responded again before the final whistle to advance.
The Grand Final was a back-and-forth affair, as Doolsta scored early only for Kid M3mito to immediately counter. The same scenario played out again shortly after as Doolsta briefly held the lead, only for M3mito to storm back and score twice for a 3-2 lead. The Philadelphia youngster held his nerve, however, and rattled off a pair of goals of his own and locked down defensively to claim the League Series One title and the $5,000 prize.
Next up on the eMLS calendar is League Series Two in Dallas, coming in February. The eMLS League Series events – which will feature the full roster of eMLS players – will help determine the seeding for eMLS Cup presented by PlayStation in March. In turn, eMLS Cup participants will earn points for the EA SPORTS Global Series Playoffs, which give gamers a chance to qualify for the 2019 FIFA eWorld Cup.
