Kristie Mewis laced up on the sideline of Yurcak Field on April 20 for the first time in almost a year due to a season-ending ACL injury in 2018. The midfielder went on to be one of the team’s crucial goal-scorers and finished the season with four goals and one assist.

Mewis started in 20 of the 22 games she played in 2019 and was a gamechanger on various fronts. The value Mewis brings to the club is no secret to anyone in the league and her recent form opened the door to join the U.S. Women’s National team for an identification camp after nearly five years since her last appearance with the national team. The Boston-native will once again work with newly appointed head coach Vlatko Andonovski.

Mewis and Andonovski spent the 2013 season together at FC Kansas City and reached the semifinals after finishing with the second best record during the regular season.

“I’m making my best out of my time here and obviously just want to have some fun,” said Mewis on being part of Andonovski’s selected pool of players. “I want to be a leader, someone that the younger players look up to.”

Along with her on-the-field talents, Mewis is known to be an important piece amongst her teammates due to her dedication to helping them in every way possible. The challenge she faced while undergoing surgery after tearing her ACL last season has turned her into an inspiration to her teammates who have shared the triumphs and setbacks of Mewis’ recovery.

“Very happy for Kristie – she’s an inspiration to everyone, especially those players that have had a bad injury,” said Dash head coach James Clarkson. “Hard work and dedication pay off, and I’m sure we will see her game continue to improve. Very excited to see her playing with the Dash next season.”

During her time with the Dash, Mewis has made 38 appearances, scoring six goals and tallying two assists. With much dedication and discipline, the midfielder who calls herself a ‘utility player’ will strive to earn a spot in Andonovski’s U.S. Women’s National Team for the upcoming Olympic qualification campaign at BBVA Stadium this January.
