HOUSTON (April 25, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC close a two-match homestand on Saturday, April 26, hosting in-state rivals Austin FC at Shell Energy Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, and fans can secure tickets to all Dynamo home matches HERE.
The Dynamo will be looking for their fourth victory over Austin at Shell Energy Stadium since the team in green joined MLS four years ago. In the most recent matchup between the two sides, Houston earned a 1-0 road victory in September last season to set a single-season Club record with eight roads wins.
Saturday’s match will be the first of two meetings between the Texas rivals this season, with Houston visiting Austin on August 9.
Houston next travels to face LAFC on Saturday, May 3 at BMO Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Following Saturday, the Dynamo will face USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday, May 7, in the Round of 32 of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Dynamo are undefeated in their previous three matches this season, coming off a 2-2 home draw versus the Colorado Rapids last weekend. The match featured forward Amine Bassi’s second goal of the season and a stoppage-time equalizer from Dynamo debutant midfielder Ondřej Lingr, whose performance earned him MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors. Notably, goalkeeper Jonathan Bond made his debut alongside Lingr after joining the Dynamo from EFL Championship side Watford FC on a full transfer earlier this month.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Primary Transfer Window deadline, Houston announced the signing of forward Toyosi Olusanya from Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren FC. The attacker joins the Dynamo after making 67 appearances (40 starts) for St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership (2022-25), tallying 14 goals and three assists and helping St. Mirren finish fifth last season.
The Dynamo also confirmed a new contract for Bassi, who re-signed through 2025 with club options through 2027. The contract was signed prior to the start of the 2025 season. Currently in his third season with the Dynamo, the Moroccan attacker has been a key contributor to Houston’s achievements over recent seasons, totaling 92 appearances (85 starts) in all competitions. Bassi joined the Club in January 2023 and quickly established himself as pivotal to Houston’s attack, recording 20 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
Additionally, ahead of Wednesday’s deadline, the Dynamo traded forward Aliyu Ibrahim to the Columbus Crew in exchange for a guaranteed $450,000 and a future sell on percentage in a cash for player trade. Houston may acquire an additional $750,000 in cash if certain performance metrics are met.
Austin enters Saturday’s match following a 1-0 home victory versus the LA Galaxy last weekend, with Brandon Vazquez scoring the lone goal at Q2 Stadium. The team has won three of their last five matches and currently sits second behind Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Western Conference standings, with 16 points through nine matches.
Notably, Dynamo assistant coach Josh Wolff joined Houston ahead of this season from Austin FC, where he served as the club’s first-ever head coach over four seasons from 2021-24. During the club’s second campaign in 2022, Wolff led the team to a second-place regular-season finish in the Western Conference with a 16-10-8 (WLD) record en route to a Western Conference Final appearance. The 48-year-old's tenure with Austin FC concluded with a combined record of 45 wins, 30 draws, and 60 losses in MLS regular season matches.
