On Tuesday, CONCACAF announced the eight groups of three teams that will compete in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League tournament (formerly the CONCACAF Champions Cup). The teams were initially split into three groups of eight teams. From those three groups, one team was chosen from each group until the eight groups were formed that will compete in the tournament. The only caveat was that no team could be drawn into a group with a club from its own country and a team from the United States and Mexico could not face off in the group stage.
After the random drawing, the Dynamo were paired with Club Deportivo Olimpia from Honduras and Club Deportivo FAS from El Salvador. This year's tournament will mark the first time the Dynamo have played either of those clubs. The actual tournament will not start until the end of July - with the schedule of games to be announced in the coming weeks - but it's never too early to learn a little about the Dynamo's opponents.
Olimpia
- Plays in the top division of Honduran football
- Home matches are played at Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino, a multi-purpose stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras
- Olimpia has won the Honduran first division a record 25 times
- Los Leones are the only team from Honduras to have won the CONCACAF Champions Cup (1972, 1988) and finished second in the tournament in 1985 and 2000
- Olimpia is led by 21-year old striker Roger Rojas who has scored 43 goals in all competitions in four seasons with the club
- Olimpia is 0-6 all-time against MLS clubs in the CONCACAF Champions Cup tournament
FAS
- CD FAS or simply FAS, plays in Salvadoran first division
- FAS is the rival of CD Aguila, the team who the Dynamo defeated 4-0 in the 2010 edition of the Dynamo Charities Cup
- Home matches are played at Estadio Óscar Alberto Quiteño, a multi-purpose stadium in Santa Ana, El Salvador
- FAS has won 17 first division titles and has finished as runner-up 14 times
- FAS won the 1979 CONCACAF Champions Cup, having defeated CRKSV Jong Colombia (Curaçao) 9-0 on aggregate in the finals
- FAS is led by Salvadoran striker William Reyes, who has scored more than 100 goals in league play for Los Tigres
