The Houston Dash acquired midfielder Betsy Brandon as a national team replacement, the club announced today.
Drafted in the 2019 NWSL College Draft, Brandon has been training with the team since preseason. The University of Virginia standout joins Houston as Lindsay Agnew, Allysha Chapman, Rachel Daly, Kayla McCoy, Clare Polkinghorne, Nichelle Prince, Sophie Schmidt and Kyah Simon have been named to their respective national team rosters for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
“We drafted her and she’s been with us throughout the preseason. This is a reward for the effort and development that she’s shown over the last ten weeks,” said head coach James Clarkson. “We’re excited and we feel she has a real future in the league. Hopefully this is the first step in her progressing and developing in the league.”
Brandon joins Houston after completing a successful four-year career at the University of Virginia. The midfielder saw action in 88 games with 71 starts during her time in Charlottesville. A native of Littleton, Colo., she scored 15 goals and added 10 assists for the Cavaliers. Brandon earned ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades three times in her career and has represented the United States at the youth international level from U-14 through U-18.
