Midfielder Rob Lovejoy announced his retirement from professional soccer via Twitter and Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.
The second year player's contract option for the 2017 season was declined by the Dynamo on Monday. Lovejoy was drafted in the second round of the 2015 SuperDraft by Houston and made 17 MLS appearances (2 starts) and scored one goal. He made two appearances for the Dynamo in 2017 while battling injuries much of the year.
The Greensboro, North Carolina, native did not specify his plans for the future, only that he was returning to his home state to take a job, and that he plans on staying involved in soccer in some capacity.
