Erick "Cubo" Torres made his Olympic debut off the bench in Mexico's 2-2 draw vs. Germany on Thursday afternoon in Salvador, Brazil.

The defending Olympic gold medalists took the lead in the 52nd minute as Oribe Peralta headed in a corner kick for his fifth career Olympic goal. The Germans equalized six minutes later via first half substitute Serge Gnabry, but Rodolfo Pizzaro put Mexico back on top in the 62nd minute by pouncing on a rebound off the crossbar.

Torres entered the match for Peralta in the 74th minute, and nearly set up a goal shortly after. He perfectly timed a run into the right channel and cut back a pass for Hirving Lozano from the endline, but the Mexico winger took an extra touch and had his shot saved by the German keeper. Germany would equalize again in the 78th minute, as Matthias Ginter headed in a corner kick.

Mexico (0-0-1, 1 point) next faces Fiji on Sunday morning (11 a.m. CT; Telemundo, NBC Olympic Soccer Channel, NBCOlympics.com), while Germany (0-0-1, 1 point) takes on the Korea Republic in Group C action.
