Postgame Notes: Houston Dynamo 1, Minnesota United FC

THE RESULT:

• Moved Houston’s record on the season to 2-3-2.
• Gave the Dynamo a 1-1-2 all-time record against Minnesota United FC and a record of 0-1-1 at TCF Bank Stadium.
• Leveled Houston’s record in April at 1-1-1.

TEAM NOTES:

• The Dynamo scored first, striking in the 10th minute through FW Alberth Elis. It was the fourth time this season that the Dynamo scored the game’s first goal, and they are now 2-1-1 when striking first.
• The Dynamo have led in each of their three away games this year. The last time the Dynamo had the lead in three consecutive away games was in 2013 when they had the lead in four consecutive away games from May 5 at LA to June 1 at Columbus.
• The Dynamo scored their fourth goal inside of 15 minutes this season and scored inside the first quarter hour three times in their first seven games this year, moving to 2-1-0 in those games.
• The Dynamo and Minnesota were tied at halftime. It marked the third time this year that Houston and its opponent were level at intermission, and the Dynamo are now 0-2-1 in those games.
• The Dynamo had the better of possession in the game, holding the ball for 52.1 percent of the match. It was the third game this year, and second in a row, in which the Dynamo had more of the ball than their opponent. They are now 1-2-0 this year with more than 50 percent of possession.
• Houston’s 458 passes attempted in the game were the second-most of the season, trailing only the 531 they attempted against Vancouver on March 10. It was the second consecutive week in which they attempted more than 450 passes (452 vs. Toronto, April 21).
• Houston outshot Minnesota 19-6. The Dynamo have outshot their opponent in six of their seven games this year, and they are now 2-3-1 in those games.
• Houston’s 20 open play crosses were the second-most in a game this year, trailing only their 38 crosses against Vancouver on March 10.
• The Dynamo utilized their seventh different starting lineup in seven games this season. Head coach Wilmer Cabrera has now used 39 different lineups in 41 games on the Dynamo sideline.

• FW Alberth Elis scored his fourth goal of the season when he slid to tap in a cross from FW Romell Quioto in the 10th minute.
• With his 10th-minute goal, Elis has recorded either a goal or an assist in three consecutive games, which is the longest such streak of his career.
• Elis has now recorded a goal or an assist in six of Houston’s seven games this season.
• Elis made his 33rd career appearance and his 25th start tonight.
• MF Tomás Martínez was credited with his third assist of the season when his diagonal pass freed FW Romell Quioto to set up the game’s opening goal from FW Alberth Elis.
• Martínez set a new MLS single-season high with his sixth start of the season.
• Martínez made his 11th career start and appeared in his 15th MLS game today.
• FW Romell Quioto recorded his third assist of the season and third in the last two weeks when he set up FW Alberth Elis for the game’s opening goal in the 10th minute.
• Quioto has recorded an assist in back-to-back games for the second time in his career and first time since May 6 and 12, 2017.
• Quioto made his third start of the season, his third in a row, and the 17th of his MLS career this evening.
• MF Arturo Alvarez made his 243rd career appearance and his sixth of the year when he came on for FW Alberth Elis in the 84th minute.
• DF DaMarcus Beasley tied for a game high with four chances created during the game, and had one shot on goal.
• Beasley made his 90th start with the Dynamo and the 178th of his career. Tonight was Beasley’s 190th career appearance in MLS play.
• MF Darwin Cerén had 80 touches in the game, which tied for a game high; and his 66 passes attempted led all players.
• Cerén made his sixth start for the Dynamo and his 73rd career start tonight.
• Cerén was shown a yellow card by referee Ted Unkel in the 55th minute for a foul on Minnesota MF Ibson.
• DF Alejandro Fuenmayor made his third start and fourth appearance tonight.
• Fuenmayor was shown a yellow card by referee Ted Unkel in the 40th minute for a handball in the penalty area. It was his second caution of the season.
• MF Boniek García made his second start and fifth appearance of the year tonight. For his career, it was his 118th start and 145th appearance.
• García made his 165th appearance across all competitions for the Dynamo, moving him past GK Tally Hall into sole possession of ninth on the club’s all-time appearance chart.
• García had 80 touches in the game, which tied for a game high.
• DF Leonardo made his 35th start with the Dynamo and the 114th of his career start this evening.
• FW Mauro Manotas led all players in the game with five shots, including one on goal.
• Manotas made his 41st career start and played in his 71st career game.
• MF Memo Rodriguez made his 11th career appearance and second of the year when he came on for FW Romell Quioto in the 87th minute.
• FW Mac Steeves made his third appearance of the season when he came on for MF Tomás Martínez in the 77th minute.
• Steeves attempted the first two shots of his MLS career, putting one on target in stoppage time.
• DF Andrew Wenger made his 102nd career MLS regular-season start today and his seventh consecutive start this season.
• Wenger is now the only player to start every game for the Dynamo this year.
• Wenger started as a defender for the sixth time in his professional career and for the third game in a row.
• GK Joe Willis made his second start of the season and his 59th career MLS regular season start tonight.
