The Houston Dynamo concluded their two-game road swing with a result, gaining a 1-1 draw with New York City FC on Saturday evening at Yankee Stadium. The Dynamo are in a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with 17 points from 14 matches.
LAST MATCH
- The Dynamo took the lead on 16 minutes. Alexander Lopez flighted in a corner kick from the left and David Horst headed a pass back into the center of the area where Will Bruin smashed home a first-time shot.
- NYCFC were able to pull even on the stroke of halftime when Houston defender Raul Rodriguez handled inside the box and referee Sorin Stoica pointed to the spot. David Villa drove the resulting spot kick past Dynamo 'keeper Tyler Deric, who guessed correctly but was unable to reach the drive.
- Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle made one change to the team that suffered a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center. Alexander Lopez came into the team in place of Brad Davis.

- The Dynamo completed their two-game road trip with one of a possible six points, after the loss to the LA Galaxy the week before.
- “I’ve got to say with all intents and purposes, we were so much in control of the game at 1-nil looking like a team that can go and get two or three, and I’ve got to be honest it’s never a penalty,” Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle said. “… So we certainly had to pick ourselves up at halftime because the boys were absolutely gutted given what went against them.”
- It was a fifth consecutive game where the Dynamo allowed just a single goal, following back-to-back matches where they allowed four goals in each. The Dynamo have gone 2-2-1 in the matches where they’ve allowed just the one tally.
- “This one’s tough. I think nine out of 10 times we should win this game,” goalkeeper Tyler Deric said. “We’re disappointed to come away with just a point considering as many chances as we had. I thought we deserved more than one point.”
- Will Bruin netted his fifth goal of the season, his four goal in the last four matches. He’s scored four of the last five goals the Dynamo have scored. Bruin has not scored fewer than five goals in any of his five MLS seasons, matching the five-goal output he had in his rookie year of 2011 (5 goals in 25 appearances).
- With Brad Davis out through injury after suffering a bone bruise on his right knee, Alexander Lopez returned to the starting lineup after coming off the substitutes’ bench each of the previous two matches, and contributed his second assist of the season, both coming over the last three matches.
- The Red Bulls match will be the last before four players join their countries on international duty. Jermaine Taylor and Giles Barnes – who have started each of the last 10 matches – will be joining Jamaica for the Copa América. And Boniek García and Luis Garrido – in the first XI in each of the last five matches – will be on international duty with Honduras.
- “I’ve purposely given [Luis Garrido] the toughest assignment because of the belief we’ve got in him,” Coyle said. “There’s no doubt that he takes that on board and he’s a player we can trust to do that. I think he’s really relished the opportunity to stand toe-to-toe with some great players.”
- Said center back David Horst: “You’re not going to mistake Luis for a playmaker. Luis is a game changer. I love having him in front of us. It really makes mine and [center back Jermaine Taylor’s] job easier when he’s in front of us.”
