The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros return to H-E-B Park after a two-game road trip when they take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday at 7:30 pm CT.
In their last match out, RGV FC fell 5-3 to Real Monarchs SLC in Herriman, Utah. Forward Michael Salazar scored his eighth goal for RGV, setting the single-season club record for goals in the process. Forward Carlos Small, on loan to RGV from Panamanian club Árabe Unido, added a late brace to threaten the Monarchs but the team was unable to complete their comeback.
Salazar was signed to a first-team contract by the Houston Dynamo on Monday, so the team will look to Small to replace the output of Maalique Foster, who is with the Jamaican national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. This season, Small has scored five goals in ten appearances. He is averaging a goal every 75 minutes this season for RGV.
After a recent seven-match winless streak, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC are currently riding a two-match winning streak, most recently defeating Tacoma Defiance 3-0 at home on June 8. In road matches this season, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC are 1-4-2. Last season, the teams split their matches, with Colorado Springs taking a 2-1 win at home on April 7 and RGV winning 1-0 at H-E-B Park on July 28.
Switchbacks FC are powered by defender Jordan Burt, who has scored five of Colorado Springs’ fourteen goals this season. Forward Mike Seth has provided three assists this season, while goalkeeper Abraham Rodriguez has made a team-high 24 saves. Colorado Springs is coached by former United States international Steve Trittschuh, who has led the team since its beginning in 2015.
The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ at 7:30 pm CT.
