Recap: Generation adidas Cup Day 3

Generation adidas Cup qualifying finished up at Houston Sports Park for the U-15 and U-17 Group B teams on Monday.

U-15 – Sporting Kansas City 1, Chicago Fire 1 (Kansas City wins 5-4 on penalties)
Dalton Visconti opened the scoring for Sporting Kansas City on a breakaway after a tough, defensive start to the match. Chicago leveled the match as Justin Reynolds converted a penalty kick, but both teams were unable to convert later chances as regulation ended in a 1-1 draw. In penalties, both teams converted four of their first five penalties, but in sudden-death it was Sporting Kansas City who was able to convert. Sporting earned two points for the shootout win, while Chicago took one point.

U-15 – Toronto FC 2, Columbus Crew SC 0
Columbus held onto possession early but were unable to convert it into a goal. Toronto FC took the advantage in the 22nd minute as Luca Accettola worked past his defender and scored the opening goal. TFC doubled their lead just before halftime as Shaman Soltzanzadeh put a left-footed shot just past the keeper. The scoring chances came for both sides in the second half, but it finished 2-0 as Toronto FC clinched their place in the Final Event.

U-15 – Houston Dynamo 1, Minnesota United FC 0
The Houston Dynamo pressured Minnesota United FC all game long, but it was a lone goal by Luis Lugo in the 28th minute that separated the teams at the end of the day. The result capped a perfect 3-0-0 weekend at home for the Dynamo U-15s.

U-17 – Montreal Impact 2, Houston Dynamo 0
Montreal pounced early in the first U-17 matchup of the day with a goal inside the penalty area from Matthew Catavolo. The Dynamo picked up the pace in the second half and created several opportunities to tie things up, but a goal in the 63rd minute by Montreal's Jérémie Omeonga secured the result for the Impact and a place in the Generation adidas Cup Champions Division.

U-17 – FC Dallas 1, Chicago Fire 0
The teams traded scoring opportunities in the first half of a tightly-contested match, but nobody could break through until the 63rd minute of the match as FC Dallas' Michael Sosa fed Cesar Martinez for the opener. Chicago fought hard to find an equalizer and nearly did before the final whistle as Missael Rodriguez had a shot goal-bound, but Philip Akem made the saving block with his left leg as Dallas finished an undefeated qualifying campaign atop the group.

U-17 – Toronto FC 3, Sporting Kansas City 0
The teams were evenly matched through the first half hour until Toronto FC forward Ralph Priso was taken down by the Sporting KC goalkeeper in the box and Jacen Russell-Rowe converted the penalty kick. Toronto FC ramped up their efforts in the second half. Priso had a penalty kick saved and Toronto had another shot hit off the post, but they finally doubled their lead in the 65th minute thanks to Julian Altobelli. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty put the final touches on the match with the third goal in the closing minutes. Toronto also earned a spot in the Champions Division.
