The Houston Dynamo Reserves dominated the first half and went on to a 3-1 victory over the Monterrey U-20s Sunday morning at Robertson Stadium. Colin Clark contributed a goal and two assists and Cam Weaver one goal and one assist in the first half alone, while Academy goalkeeper Fernando Piña made six saves in the second half.
Clark and Weaver led the Reserves attack in the first half. Clark set up Jason Garey for the opening goal in the sixth minute, then scored from a Weaver through ball in the 26th minute. Clark then provided the third goal with a corner kick that Weaver headed in.
Monterrey got back into the game in the second half as the Dynamo made several changes, and the Rayados pulled a goal back in the 74th minute with a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area. Piña, back from the FIFA U-17 World Cup, made seven saves in the match and saved a Monterrey penalty kick in the 89th minute to preserve the final margin.
