The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros take their three-game unbeaten streak to Carson, Calif. on Wednesday as they face Los Angeles Galaxy II at 9:30 p.m.

The Toros finished a three-game homestretch with a 5-2 victory over Eric Wynalda and Las Vegas Lights FC last Saturday at H-E-B Park. Andy Cabrera scored his first professional goal in Saturday’s victory from the penalty spot to give the Toros a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Four minutes later Isidro Martinez doubled RGV’s lead off a square ball from Maalique Foster to the heart of the box.

Michael Salazar forced an own goal in the first minute of the second half as the Lights defense failed to clear a shot that bounced off three defenders in the box. Foster would finish the game with a goal after forward Carlos Small found the Jamaican international on a counter attack in the 79th minute. Small would add his own tally as he muscled past a defender inside the box to beat the Las Vegas goalkeeper at the near post.

This was the most dominant offensive display for the Toros this season after they were held to two goals in their first three games of the campaign. Since then, the Toros have scored eight goals in their last four games, including a 2-1 victory over OKC Energy on April 13.

The Toros face an LA Galaxy II squad that did not see action last weekend due to a bye, but fell 2-0 to San Antonio FC on April 13. LA has a 2-1-0 record at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium this season after winning their last two matches in Carson.

Kai Koreniuk leads the midfield for the Galaxy with two assists and two goals this season. Koreniuk is tied with three additional teammates for the most goals scored by a Galaxy player in 2019. The varying arsenal features 21-year-old Ethan Zubak who has scored two goals in four games for LA.

Wednesday’s match will be streamed live on ESPN +. The Toros will travel to the Pacific Northwest next week as they face Portland Timbers 2 at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at Merlo Field.
