RGV FC Toros remain undefeated at home with 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers

The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros played to a 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers but have yet to lose a game at H-E-B Park.


RGV’s Matias Zaldivar attacked Swope Park’s box early in the game, and in the 4th minute of action, Zaldivar volleyed Jesus Enriquez’s cross but the shot went well wide. In the 18th minute, Aldo Quintanilla dribbled past the Rangers’ defense and Eric Dick, goalkeeper for Swope Park. The ball rolled over to Pablo Aguilar, who shot and missed the open net.   


Enriquez tested his aim from a distance in the 21st minute, but his shot just sailed over the crossbar. Swope Park had their first dangerous play of the game in the 31st minute. Swope Park’s Kharlton Belmar  took a shot but hit the crossbar.


The Toros were awarded a penalty in the 42nd minute after Jesus Enriquez was fouled. Captain Todd Wharton stepped up to take the shot, but Eric Dick made a superb save to keep the game scoreless.


Swope Park Rangers started the second half with an offensive mindset. Wan Kuzain took a shot from outside of the box in 47th minute but was saved by Nicolas Corti. Corti had another save in the 55th minute as Kuzain shot a dangerous free kick from near midfield.


Quinatilla had an opportunity to score the game winner in the 64th minute. A lob pass enabled Quintanilla inside the box but Eric Dick blocked his shot. In the dying seconds of the game Jhon Montaño had a chance to put the game away for the Toros. A rebound found his way to him, but Montaño could not put the ball on target.


The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros will face Los Angeles Galaxy II next on Wednesday, May 23. The match will kick-off at 7p.m. at H-E-B Park.
