After a six-game unbeaten run, the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros’s streak was cut to an end. Real Monarchs SLC defeated the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros 2-0. Richard Ledezma and Mastanabal Kacher scored for the Monarchs.
Real Monarchs’ Charlie Adams had the first crack at goal in the game in the 10th minute of action. Adams’ sent s skidding shot that was collected by Nico Corti, goalkeeper for the Toros. The Monarchs would score their first goal of the match in the 25th minute. Inside the 18-yard box, Chandler Hoffman cut the ball back to Richard Ledezma. Ledezma, who had entered the game for an injured Sebastian Velasquez, calmly kicked the ball for his first professional goal.
Now trailing, the Toros shifted towards a more offensive mindset. Unfortunately for Rio Grande Valley, the numerous crosses failed to connect with an attacker. Early in the second half, the Monarchs almost doubled their lead. Nico Corti tipped Adams’ free kick over the cross bar.
In the 50th minute, the left post denied Kalen Ryden from scoring. Ryden headed in a corner kick and struck the woodwork before being cleared by the RGV defense. Mastanabal Kacher scored the second goal for Real Monarchs SLC in the 70th minute. Kacher collected Ledezma’s cross. After a heavy first touch, Kacher cut to his right and kicked the ball through Nico Corti as he came out of his line.
Corti denied Real Monarchs from getting a third goal in the 88th minute. Glademir Mendoza played in Chandler Hoffman. While the RGV defense obstructed Hoffman from taking a shot, Corti cleared the ball out of the box. In the insinuating play, the ball found Mendoza inside the 18-yard box. Mendoza could not keep his shot down and the ball went over the crossbar.
The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros will return home and prepare for their next home match against Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, June 9th at H-E-B Park. The match will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
