The Houston Dynamo improved to 3-2 in MLS Reserve League play with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids Tuesday morning at Robertson Stadium. Dynamo rookie Kofi Sarkodie scored the game's only goal in the 76th minute to break the deadlock.
The game's best early scoring chance fell to Colorado's Michael Holody in the 14th minute after a Danny Earls corner kick, but Holody's shot was cleared off the goal line by Houston defender Corey Ashe.
Houston's best chance early in the second half came in the 54th minute when Josue Soto slipped a pass into the penalty area for left back Mike Chabala, but his close-range shot was saved by Colorado goalkeeper Ian Joyce, who finished with five saves.
The Dynamo controlled the second half, outshooting Colorado 10-3, and finally took the lead in the 76th minute when Francisco Navas Cobo stole the ball on the right and passed to Sarkodie at the right corner of the penalty area. Sarkodie dribbled past one defender, juked onto his left foot, and rolled a shot inside the far post.
Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric made two saves and dealt with several crosses and long balls, including a late collision at the top of the penalty area, to earn his third shutout and the Dynamo's third 1-0 win of the reserve season. The Dynamo Reserves are not scheduled to play again until August 21, when they will host Real Salt Lake.
