The Houston Dynamo and BBVA Compass Stadium today announced that Tigres UANL of Mexico and C.D. Aguila of El Salvador will meet in a friendly match at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Houston Dynamo’s new home.
Both clubs have enjoyed recent success, with Tigres capturing the Mexican Primera Division’s Apertura title in 2011 and Aguila winning the Salvadoran Primera Division’s Clausura championship in May, its fifteenth title in the club’s 87-year history.
“We are excited to host this match between these two storied soccer clubs,” said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. “There is a strong interest in both of them, and we expect a big crowd to be on hand. When we built BBVA Compass Stadium, we envisioned bringing great international soccer games here, and this is just one of many to come.”
Dynamo season ticket holders have the option to purchase tickets for this game during a 24-hour private window, effective immediately through to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3.
The match is part of suite holder and President’s Club ticket packages and ticket holders in both areas have their seats guaranteed for this match.

Ticket prices will be consistent with regular Dynamo game pricing, starting at $24.

Tigres is based in Monterrey and is the official team of Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. It won Mexico’s first division title in 1977-78, 1981-82 and most recently, the 2011 Clausura. Tigres is led by captain and midfielder Lucas Lobos, one of the top players in the Mexican League. Lobos, from Argentina, earned player of the tournament honors for the 2011 Clasura and Apertura tournaments.
Tigres also features United States men’s national team defender Jonathan Bornstein, who joined the club in 2011. Bornstein, 27, has 38 appearances for the United States, including two starts at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Tigres captured the 2005 InterLiga Championship in Houston to qualify for the prestigious Copa Libertadores. The club also won the 2006 InterLiga to become the first Mexican team to qualify for consecutive Copa Libertadores. Tigres will also participate in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.
Aguila is one of the largest clubs in El Salvador, and its fifteen league titles are second-most in league history. Like the Houston Dynamo and Tigres, it will participate in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League. Aguila won the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup (predecessor to Champions League) in 1976.
Aguila is led by captain and El Salvador international Luis Anaya, who has 37 appearances for his country. The club also features El Salvador international midfielder Osael Romero, 26, who played for Chivas USA and has 66 appearances for El Salvador.
