To commemorate the 10th season of Houston Dynamo soccer, we are counting down the Top 10 moments in Houston Dynamo history as voted on by the fans leading up to our 10th Season Celebration on Oct. 18 against the Seattle Sounders (TICKETS). First up is No. 10:
In an MLS first, the Houston Dynamo honored one of their all-time greats Brian Ching with a testimonial match after he announced his retirement at the close of the 2013 season.
The match itself was a comedy show of sorts, with former Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear earning a yellow card immediately upon subbing into the match, Landon Donovan playing goalkeeper, and Craig Waibel giving his jersey and cleats to a fellow bald-headed stranger in the stands to take his place on the field (among many more hijinks). The score finished 6-4 in favor of Ching's team comprised of players from the Dynamo's 2006-07 championship-winning squads, but the game itself was second to the moment given to the face of the franchise.
Ching gave a tearful goodbye to the Dynamo faithful in attendance following the match, as he was surrounded by teammates and friends from around the league. Nearly 7,000 fans came out on a cold, rainy night in December to show their respect for one of the pillars of the Dynamo organization.
