Houston Dynamo FC and defender Adam Lundkvist have agreed to a contract extension through the 2022 MLS season with options for the 2023 & 2024 seasons, the Club announced today.

“Adam is a top professional on and off the field and brings a winning mentality to work every day which is important for our group as we prepare for the upcoming season. He has proven to be a solid and steady contributor since joining our Club and we are pleased to have come to an agreement on a contract extension with him,” said Dynamo Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan

The outside back was acquired on a full transfer from Swedish side IF Elfsborg on April 26, 2018. The 27-year-old has earned 65 regular season appearances for the Dynamo, including 59 starts and five assists since making his MLS debut on May 20, 2018. Lundkvist has also earned two appearances in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while helping the team win the competition in 2018. He has also represented the Dynamo on the international stage during the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

“Adam is one of the more consistent players in his position in MLS. His work rate is second to none and he is a role model for younger players,” Dynamo head coach Tab Ramos said. “We are excited that he decided to stay in Houston.”

Lundkvist made his professional debut in 2011 as an 18-year-old with IF Elfsborg and finished with 109 appearances with the first team. The Swedish defender scored three goals and tallied 15 assists with Elfsborg. Lundkvist won the 2013/2014 Svenska Cupen and finished with six appearances in the domestic cup tournament where he transitioned from the midfield to the backline.

Internationally, the defender has earned two senior caps with the Swedish National Team. The Swedish international represented his native land at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and appeared in three group stage games. Additionally, Lundkvist represented Sweden in several age levels ranging from the U17-U23 national teams and joined Sweden for the 2017 UEFA European U-21 Championships.
