Dynamo 2 will look to bounce back on Sunday after falling 2-1 to Sporting KC II in the season opener at SaberCats Stadium last weekend, giving up two goals in the last 10 minutes. Houston opened scoring in first half stoppage time, when midfielder Ousmane Sylla found forward Exon Arzu in transition, and the Honduran 19-year-old found the bottom corner of the far post. However, goals from Roberto Avila (82’) and Paul Vidal (87’) saw the result go the way of Kansas City.
Dynamo Dos entered the season with 25 players on its roster, including 16 Dynamo Academy players, made up of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards. Four Houston Dynamo FC players also joined the team last Sunday, including forward Stephen Annor, midfielder Ousmane Sylla, defender Kieran Sargeant and goalkeeper Xavier Valdez. Valdez will not be available for selection on Sunday due to the international window. The Dynamo goalkeeper reported for international duty with the Dominican Republic to face Aruba and Peru.
Four Dynamo Academy players and four Dynamo Academy products earned their first appearance of the year on Sunday. That list includes 16-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez, who signed a first team contract as a Homegrown player in the offseason. The youngest player to take the field was 14-year-old Myles Gardner.
LAFC2 opened the season with a strong 4-1 home victory over Minnesota United FC 2 on Sunday. Midfielder Leo Flores capitalized on a first-half goalkeeping error to put the Black & Gold in the lead. Two second-half goals by newcomer Luis Müller, and one by Matt Evans, helped LAFC2 pick up its first win of 2024.
Houston fared well against Los Angeles last season, taking five points over two matches. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in Houston in April, with Dynamo Dos earning the additional point for winning the penalty shootout 4-1. Houston then followed up with a victory at LAFC2 in June, winning 2-0 with goals from midfielder Diego Gonzalez and forward Papa N’Doye.
Dynamo 2 return home on Thursday, March 28 to host in-state rivals Austin II at SaberCats Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
