Houston Dynamo 2 return to league play on Sunday as they visit North Texas SC for the first meeting of the year between both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and fans can follow the action on MLSNEXTPro.com. The team will depart for Frisco, Texas on Friday and travel with the first team, who face FC Dallas on Saturday, April 27 at Toyota Park.
The team opened a four-game road trip with a loss to Sporting KC II at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village on April 14. This was also the first time Dynamo 2 was held scoreless since July 2023, a span of seven games. Dynamo 2 played the final 49 minutes with 10 players after defender Omar Grey received his second yellow card of the match in the final moments of the first half.
Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Xavier Valdez finished with five saves against Sporting KC II. The Dynamo 2 backline was under heavy pressure in Kansas City, facing 11 shots on goal. Homegrown defender Kieran Sargeant finished with five clearances and Femi Awodesu led the team with seven clearances.
Dynamo 2 forward Exon Arzu will be eligible to return on Sunday after serving a one-game suspension for a red card in Houston’s match against Austin FC on March 28. The Honduran international leads the team with two goals and has been a constant thread to opposing backlines this season.
North Texas has won back-to-back games leading up to Sunday’s match. The team defeated Colorado Rapids 2 on the road last weekend with goals from Pedro Fonseca and Tarik Scott. Scott enters the match with goals scored in three consecutive games.
The series was split in 2023 with Houston winning at home and earning a point on the road against North Texas SC. The FC Dallas affiliate claimed three points in the final meeting of the season to even the record at 1-1-1. Houston earned an additional point following a shootout triumph on May 21, 2023.
The next meeting between both teams is scheduled for July 21 in Houston. Dynamo 2 will visit Choctaw Stadium for the third and final meeting of the regular season with North Texas on Aug. 17.
Dynamo 2 continue their four-game road trip on Friday, May 3 when they visit Town FC at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif. The team returns to SaberCats Stadium on May 22 to host St. Louis CITY SC II. Tickets for that match and all Dynamo 2 games at SaberCats Stadium are free and available HERE.
