Houston Dynamo 2 fall 3-1 to Minnesota United FC 2

HOUSTON (March 30, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 fell 3-1 versus Minnesota United FC 2 at Shell Energy Stadium earlier this evening.

The match saw young midfielder Lionel Gitau make his first start for Dynamo 2 and in MLS NEXT Pro after making his professional debut on Wednesday versus Ventura County FC.

Dynamo 2 captain and midfielder Diego Gonzalez was the lone goal scorer tonight, notching his second goal of the season from the penalty spot following a foul in the third minute of second-half stoppage-time.

Minnesota took the lead in the 28th minute when Curt Calov found Alisa Randell on a run towards the box for a quick finish over goalkeeper Roman Kerimov.

The visiting team doubled their lead in the 43rd minute when Logan Dorsey set up Loic Mesanvi in the box for a right-footed finish.

Dorsey scored Minnesota’s final goal of the match in the 51st minute with a right-footed shot that deflected into the back of the net.

Gonzalez had Houston’s first shot on goal in the 22nd minute when he fired a right-footed shot that forced Wessel Speel to get low to his left.

Kerimov was called into action in the 36th minute when Dorsey forced the young goalkeeper to come out his line and make a big save with his leg.

Midfielder Enrique Correa took his chances from outside the box in the 45th minute, firing a powerful shot that was saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Dynamo 2 almost pulled one back in the 57th minute when Gonzalez’s shot from outside the box nearly found the back of the net after taking a deflection off Minnesota’s backline. Ten minutes later, midfielder Noah Betancourt gave Houston another dangerous opportunity with a powerful header that forced the Minnesota goalkeeper to make a diving save to his left.
