HOUSTON (April 6, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 earned a 1-0 victory versus LAFC2 at SaberCats Stadium tonight behind Dynamo 2 captain Diego Gonazlez’s third goal of the season. The result marked Houston’s first clean sheet of the year, helped by six saves from goalkeeper Pedro Cruz.
Tonight's match also featured familiar faces, with first-team defender Michael Halliday and forwards Gabe Segal and Stephen Annor making their first appearances this MLSNP season.
Dynamo Dos took the lead in the 72nd minute when Gonzalez capitalized on a LAFC2 error by intercepting a pass from David Ochoa and firing the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Cruz was called into action in the 15th minute when Tommy Mihalić got a shot off as he received the ball into right side of the box, but the Brazilian shot stopper got low to block away the danger with his feet for his first save of the night.
Segal had Houston’s first shot on goal in the 23rd minute with a right-footed strike that found the hands of Ochoa.
Cruz was called into action again in the 42nd minute when the young goalkeeper dove low to his left to stop a dangerous shot from Jude Terry.
Forward Exon Arzú gave Dynamo 2 a dangerous chance in the 54th minute when he received a back heel flick from Segal inside the box for a right-footed strike that was blocked away for a corner by the visiting goalkeeper.
Arzú took his chances from outside the box in the 76th minute, firing a right-footed shot that was saved by Ochoa.
Cruz stepped up one last time in the 89th minute, safely securing a shot that was deflected towards goal.
