HOUSTON (March 28, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 *fell 1-0 to Austin FC II earlier today at SaberCats Stadium. Dynamo 2 played the final 39 minutes of the match with 10 players following a red card for Exon Arzu early in the second half.
Austin took the lead in the 81st minute off a cross from Jimmy Farkarlun that found CJ Fodrey inside the box for his first goal of the season. Austin capitalized on the man advantage finishing with seven shots in the second half. They forced two saves from Dynamo goalkeeper Nico Hansen this evening.
Dynamo 2 tallied their first shot on goal in the fifth minute after Ifu Achara forced a save from Austin FC II goalkeeper Marcus Alstrup.
Hansen earned his second consecutive start of the season tonight and tallied his first save of the game in the sixth minute when he denied Jimmy Farkarlun.
Midfielder Ousmane Sylla found space behind the Austin backline in the 30th minute after he dribbled past a pair of defenders toward the far post. The playmaker cut back to create space for a cross that was eventually cleared by the Austin backline.
Sylla won the ball again near midfield in the 41st minute and found Achara at the far post to force a save from the Austin goalkeeper. Achara forced a clearance moments later following a free kick awarded to Dynamo 2 for a foul on Arzu.
Houston’s final opportunity of the first half came in the third minute of stoppage time following an additional foul on Arzu. Captain Diego Gonzalez took the ensuing free kick and forced a save at the top corner of the near post.
Gonzalez forced a save at the near post in the 66th minute after forward Stephen Annor forced the backline to clear the ball at the edge of the box. The ball fell to Gonzalez for a shot on goal that was pushed over the crossbar for a corner kick. This was Annor’s third appearance of the season, and he scored his first goal of the campaign last Sunday against LAFC 2 in Southern California.
