Houston Dynamo 2 returns to SaberCats Stadium to host Colorado Rapids 2 this Sunday, Sept. 22, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. CT. Tickets for Sunday’s fixture and all Dynamo 2 matches are free and available HERE.

This will be the third match under the direction of interim head coach Jeremy Hurdle, who was named to the role Sept. 6. Kenny Bundy is now a member of the first team technical staff as an interim assistant coach.

Houston looks to bounce back and continue its push for the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs following a 3-1 loss to in-state rivals Austin FC II last week. Dynamo 2 enter this match two points behind the final playoff spot available in the Western Conference with three games remaining, including Sunday’s match against Colorado. The team has qualified for the postseason in back-to-back campaigns and look to secure a spot in the expanded playoff model announced by MLS NEXT Pro in February.

Dynamo 2 played the final 47 minutes with 10 men after defender Isaac Mwakutuya received a red card during the final moments of the first half. Despite the result, the match featured Lukas Bruegmann’s first MLS NEXT Pro goal. The 15-year-old scored in the final minutes of the second half with a perfectly placed strike towards the right side of the net. Additionally, the goal was assisted by Ousmane Sylla, his fourth assist of the season.

During their last meeting on Aug. 3, Dynamo 2 fell 2-1 at Colorado but it saw Houston dominate the pace of the game with 57.1% possession while putting up an expected goal tally of 1.51, greater than the Rapids’ expected goal ratio of 0.76. Dynamo 2 also doubled the host shots on target and led the night with the most passes in the final third (133).

Colorado enters Sunday’s match looking to snap a five-game losing streak after their 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City and 3-1 loss against St. Louis City 2 in their most recent matches. The team is led by Marlon Vargas and Antony Ivan Garcia Rodriguez, who have combined for 16 goals and six assists so far this season.

Houston and Colorado split the regular season series in 2023 with each team winning on the road. In the all-time series, Colorado has a slight advantage with a 3-2-1 (WLD) record.

Dynamo 2 will travel to Seattle on Sunday, Sept. 29 to take on Tacoma Defiance at Starfire Sports Complex before returning to SaberCats for their last match of the season against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
