HOUSTON (Aug. 20, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 return to SaberCats Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 21, to kick off a two-game homestand against Minnesota United FC 2. This fixture will mark the second matchup between the sides following a 3-1 victory for Dynamo 2 on June 30. Goals from Ousmane Sylla, Stephen Annor, and Isaiah Reid helped claim the three points in that match on the road.
Dynamo 2 look to bounce back following a 4-1 loss on the road to in-state rivals North Texas SC last Saturday night. Sebastian Rodriguez scored his first goal of the season during the match with a superb strike following a cross from Diego Gonazlez. The midfielder’s goal gave Gonazlez his ninth assist of the season and he continues to lead MLS NEXT Pro with the highest assist count. However, Gonazlez will miss Wednesday’s fixture following his double yellow booking against North Texas.
Houston fought till the end against the FC Dallas affiliate, forcing six saves from the North Texas goalkeeper while creating 12 chances. Notably, two chances created from Gonazlez, Josue Souza, and Jahmani Bell.
Minnesota United will travel to Houston at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with 19 points and a record of 5-12-2 (WLD). They look to improve their record in August following a 3-0 defeat to St. Louis City 2 in their most recent match and a 5-1 loss against Tacoma Defiance at the beginning of the month. The offense is led by Patrick Weah, who has notched eight goals so far this season.
Dynamo Dos leads the all-time series against Minnesota, with three victories and one draw out of their four meetings in regular season play. In 2023, Houston won the season series with a 4-1 victory at the National Sports Center Stadium in June. The two teams split the points in the second meeting of the season at SaberCats Stadium in July.
Dynamo 2 close the two-game homestead on Sunday, Aug. 25 against Minnesota at SaberCats Stadium. Tickets for that match and all Dynamo Dos matches at SaberCats Stadium are free and available HERE.
