Houston Dynamo 2 return to Shell Energy Stadium on Sunday to host North Texas SC. This is the second meeting of the regular season between both teams following a 2-2 draw in Arlington on April 28.

Dynamo 2 look to build on their 2-0 victory over Austin FC II last week at Shell Energy Stadium. That victory extended Houston’s unbeaten run to three games. Defender Femi Awodesu scored his second goal of the season in the victory over the reigning MLS NEXT Pro champions. Dynamo Academy forward David Garcia scored his first goal of the season and captain Diego Gonzalez tallied an assist on both goals.

Gonzalez currently leads the team with seven assists, and he surpassed his assist total for the 2023 season. The midfielder was among the best midfielders in the league last season contributing six assists and scoring 11 goals.

Defensively, goalkeeper Nico Hansen finished with three saves and earned his first clean sheet with the team. Dynamo Academy alum Kieran Sargeant led the team with seven clearances and finished with two interceptions. Dynamo Academy defenders Isaac Mwakutuya led the team with 10 duels won and Tate Lampman finished with four interceptions.

Mwakutuya will report to Columbus, Ohio next week to represent the Dynamo Academy at the MLS NEXT All-Star Game. The 16-year-old is the third Dynamo Academy player to represent the program at the annual showcase. Mwakutuya has started 14 games this season.

Sargeant scored his first goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with North Texas in April. The home side ultimately won an extra point following the shootout. That draw was the first of a four-game unbeaten run for the team that included back-to-back victories over Real Monarchs and St. Louis.

The series was split in 2023 with Houston winning at home and earning a point on the road against North Texas SC. The third and final meeting of the regular season is scheduled for Aug. 17 at Choctaw Stadium.

North Texas enters the match with a 9-2-5 (WLD) record in league play and they are tied with St. Louis CITY SC 2 for the best record in the conference. Their seven-game unbeaten streak ended on July 14 in a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids 2. This was the first match where North Texas SC was held scoreless since a loss to the Town FC on May 12.

The team will close their three-game homestand on July 28 when they host LAFC 2. Tickets for all Dynamo 2 games are free and available HERE.
