HOUSTON (Aug. 1, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 captain Diego Gonzalez was named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month for July, the league announced today.
The Dynamo Academy product contributed to seven goals in four games. The midfielder scored the equalizer to secure a point on the road against Ventura County on July 5. Gonzalez tallied two assists in Houston’s 2-0 victory over the reigning MLS NEXT Pro Champions, Austin FC II, on July 11.
The Dynamo 2 captain followed the performance against Austin with three assists in a 4-0 victory over North Texas SC on July 21. His final assist of the month extended Dynamo 2’s winning streak to three games after he found Gabe Segal in the second half to secure a 2-1 victory over LAFC 2 on July 28. The team is now unbeaten in five games and has posted a 4-0-1 record in that stretch.
Gonzalez currently leads the league in assists with eight and key passes with 50. The midfielder finished with 11 goals and six assists last season and led Dynamo 2 to their second consecutive playoff appearance.
