Houston Dynamo 2 return to league play on Wednesday, May 22 when they host St. Louis CITY SC 2 for the first of two home games this week. This is Houston’s first match since a 2-1 triumph on May 8 on the road against the Real Monarchs in Utah.
Ousmane Sylla scored his first goal of the season in Houston’s victory on May 8. His goal was the equalizer, and the MAC Hermann Trophy winner found the back of the net on a set piece from Diego Gonzalez. That was the first of two assists for the Dynamo Academy product. Gonzalez found Stephen Annor later in the match for the game-winning goal. Annor has scored two goals this season and is tied with Honduran international Exon Arzu for the most goals scored this season.
Jordy Burbano, a 20-year-old forward from Ecuador, made his debut for the team in the victory over Real Monarchs. The talented winger began the year with El Nacional in his native Ecuador and he joined the club for the two-game series against Paraguayan club Trinidense in the second round of the 2024 Copa Libertadores.
The season series between these two teams was split in 2023 with each team winning three points on the road. Houston claimed a 3-1 victory at CITYPARK on April 7, 2023, and Gonzalez scored the equalizer in the first half. St. Louis claimed three points five months later following a hat trick from Faysal Bettache.
St. Louis have won four of their last five league games and enter unbeaten in their last six matches. Their lone draw in that stretch was on April 7 following a 1-1 draw with Portland Timbers 2 and St. Louis claimed the extra point following a 5-3 triumph in the shootout. MyKhi Joyner currently leads the team in goals, and he scored in the 2-1 victory over Austin FC II on May 12, St. Louis’ most recent match in league play.
Dynamo 2 close this two-game homestand on Sunday, May 26 when they host Tacoma Defiance. This is the first meeting between both teams since the quarterfinals of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro postseason. Tickets for the match are free and available HERE.
