Houston Dynamo 2 travel to the National Sports Center Stadium on Sunday to face Minnesota United FC 2. Sunday’s match is the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.
Dynamo look to bounce back after a loss at home to Colorado Rapids 2 last Sunday. Dynamo Academy forward Mattheo Dimareli found Isaiah Reid inside the box for the opening goal of the match. The Clemson University product dribbled to create space for a shot that found the bottom corner of the near post for his first goal of the season.
Dimareli earned his first start of the season on Sunday and that was just his second appearance for Dynamo 2. The 15-year-old was one of nine Dynamo Academy players or alums to take the field against Colorado. The forward finished with two chances created and won four individual duels. Dimareli earned MLS NEXT Pro Rising Star of Matchweek 15 honors for his performance against the Rapids.
Defender Tate Lampman earned his second consecutive start of the year after returning from a leg injury suffered earlier this year. The Dynamo Academy player led the team with five interceptions and finished with two recoveries.
Minnesota looks to bounce back after four consecutive losses to open the month of June. The Loons mounted a comeback scoring two goals in the second half but fell short at home to Portland Timbers 2 on Wednesday evening. The 3-2 loss was the eighth loss of the season for Minnesota.
Dynamo 2 won the season series last year with a 4-1 victory at the National Sports Center Stadium in June. The two teams split the points in the second meeting of the season at SaberCats Stadium in July. Dynamo 2 leads the all-time regular season series with a 3-0-1 (WLD) record.
