Houston Dynamo 2 signed defender Jeferson Medina on loan for the remainder of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season from Fortaleza CEIF in Colombia.
"Jeferson is a powerful, aggressive defender who brings versatility and competition to our group,” Dynamo Assistant General Manager Nick Kowba said. “He is another example of a young international talent with first team potential that has been uncovered through our scouting processes. We look forward to integrating him into the team as soon as possible.”
The defender began his career in the Sarmiento Lora Academy before moving to Fortaleza in 2022 where he started with the U-17 team. Medina served as the captain of the U-17 squad, leading the team to the final of the national tournament in 2023. He scored a goal in the final but the team ultimately fell to Atlético Nacional.
The 18-year-old also participated in the Columbian U-17 National Team micro-cycles ahead of the 2023 CONMEBOL U-17 Championship in Ecuador.
Most recently, Medina started 15 games with Fortazela’s U-19’s, playing up an age category despite being two years younger.
The defender will be eligible for selection later today when Dynamo 2 host Tacoma Defiance at SaberCats Stadium.
