HOUSTON (May 22, 2024) - Houston Dynamo 2 sign midfielder Josué Souza on loan from Brazilian side Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense for the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.
“Josue is an aggressive ball-winning defensive midfielder with good tactical understanding and technical ability who is joining us from one of the top clubs in South America,” Dynamo Assistant General Manager, Nick Kowba said. “He is another young and rising talent that was scouted through our new analytics and recruitment process, and we look forward to maximizing his potential and ultimately impacting our first team.”
The 19-year-old joins the team from Grêmio in his native Brazil. He played in three games this season for the U-20 squad and has made four appearances for the first team.
Souza made his professional debut as an 18-year-old on Oct. 18, 2023, when he came off the bench to face Club Athletico Paranaense in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. He earned his first start three days later against São Paulo Futebol Clube.
At the U-20 level, he reached the quarterfinals of the CBF Brasileiro in 2023 against Corinthians.
